Haha holy shit Kurt’s guitar sucks. He even changes the lyrics to Love Buzz complaining about how his guitar he just bought cost him $125 and it really sucks. Sometimes crap equipment makes the shows more amusing though. Sadly the sound quality isn’t the greatest. Especially after the soundboard cuts out and the rest is a bad audience recording. :(
05-04-90 Is a blah audience recording. It improves as the show goes on thankfully. But something is better than nothing regardless of quality. Ah well, the next show has a video source. Then, after that, it’s the best show of the Spring 90 tour (and last surfaced show with Chad :(.)

Audience pisses Krist off prompting a rant! Oh Krist rants are the absolute best. Someone told Krist to shut up and called Krist a dork. Prompting Krist to call the heckler a jock and then mocked em. Oh Krist you’re so adorable.
Not exactly the best show the band has ever done. In fact it’s one of the worst of 1990. But, the interesting thing is IGGY POP WAS AT THIS SHOW! How amazing is that?
Iggy Pop said about the show, “I went to see Nirvana at a small club called the Pyramid on Avenue A in New York City It was hard to hear the guitar, but the guy playing and singing had a vibe; he hopped around like a muppet or an elf or something, hunched over his guitar, hop hop hop, hippety hippety hop. I loved that. When he sang, he put his voice in this really grating place, and it was kind of devilish sounding. At the end of the set he attacked the drum kit and threw the cymbals, other bits and finally himself into the audience. Later I saw the same guy passing the bar. He was little, with stringy blond hair and a Stooges T-shirt. I felt proud.”

It disappoints me that my last post hardly got any love. Then I remember that most NIRVANA fans on tumblr suck and solemnly nod my head.
This show is a day before the band meets up with Butch Vig to record the Smart Session. Which, obviously, most fans have heard in full due to the numerous bootlegs of songs and the 20th anniversary Nirvana set having the session.
ANYWAYS…. Kurt keeps introducing Dive as a new song. Even though the band played it way back in Sept ‘89 in Chicago! YOU LIE KURT! Although, after Dive, the band debuts In Bloom. Radically different lyrics and a false start! The set list only lists it as “New Song”…and the fuckers skipped Sappy! Of course Kurt did give Chicago You Know You’re Right 3 years later but Sappy is the superior song!
It’s alright show, although I think all the shows on the Feb West Coast tour were superior.
I guess wearing high-waisted jeans with your shirt tucked in gets all the girls, including Chad. I enjoy how Krist is standing there awkwardly, wishing he was a pimp like Kurt.

Perhaps one of the oddest pieces of NIRVANA history. The band was attempting to make a music video to sell to fans, or some such, and thus are playing in front of blue screens. Think of it as an early attempt at Live! Tonight! Sold Out! concept.
Aside from the neat visuals of the blue screen we are treated to the first known recording of LITHIUM!
I had a bitch of a time making this stupid gif. But this post looks fucking amazing. And it better get reblogs and likes! I wanted to add more screen shots but I like the format of the post thus far so I am just going to use these.
But if you ever wanted to see Nirvana play infront of a blue screen to images of New Kids on the block, Star Search, David Cassidy, the Wizard of Oz and a bunch of other crap you should try to find this. It’s so beautifully bizzarre. It may be on youtube but I highly recommend you download the actual DVD because youtube quality blows.
It also has jams! IF you enjoy instrumental NIRVANA jams. There are 3 separate sources of this date. I watched all because each has something different. One even has the videos the band attempted to make for School and Lithium. And Lithium they cut in footage of Dave playing drums!
The Star Search dancers are the best! XD

I synced up the video the superior audio source! How sweet am I? It’s not totaly in sync, because I am lazy, but close enough to rock out. Sometimes someone has already synced things up with a matrix but not this show. Which is shocking because the video source sounds so shitty.
But no gif experimentation. I don’t feel like attempting to sync it all back up again. So I’ll just post a couple screen shots. Nothing too exciting this time.
Anyways, about the actual show. It’s a super fun show. The end of the regular set is fun because a bunch of people danced on stage with the band. Just imagine seeing Nirvana in some small club and dancing on stage with them during Blew. How amazing. Seriously I just have the biggest smile on my face as I watch the spectacle. And that much awesomeness gave this crowd an encore.
And we also get KRIST IN HIS UNDERWEAR !When I think of Nirvana I don’t think of the biggest band of the 90s. I think of the small time punk band who played amazing live shows. And, honestly, shows like that just make me smile and feel good.
The semi-topless “go-go dancer” in the top screencap was the best! I wonder where that guy is now? Hopefully still drunkenly dancing on stage with bands in bars…

Before I comment on the video I just want to express my amazement of all myths of Kurt on tumblr. But I suppose that fits with the “legend” status. I mean 98% of people still think he was saying “Pain” in your know you’re right when the actual isolated vocal track clearly indicates he was singing “Hey”. But it doesn’t fit the revisionist history of Kurt Cobain.
Even Courtney sang “Hey” at Hole’s unplugged cover of the song! And Courtney helped create that myth with professional lying hack Charles Cross!
Anyways….
The last video source of 1989. LOL NIVARNA. Oh you French people! We get a short bass cover of Planet Claire and Johnny b Goode. Other than that a pretty typical Euro Bleach show. We are clearly in the home stretch with only two more dates left on the tour.

Anyone who has any interest getting into live Nirvana collecting should start with this show. Or at least this should be one of the first shows you collect (I’d always recommend 11-25-90 which is the greatest Nirvana show of all time, It has perfect sound quality and features Vendetagainst (with Tad on guitar!). Amazing we have that song in perfect quality. Kurt’s voice goes absolutely crazy with his screaming. This performance of the song has been bootlegged so many times because it’s so awesome.
The show also has a Sappy AND a homophobic crowd! Prompting Krist to go on rants!

Once upon a time there was debate on when the recording of the show was. I believe it’s finally been settled that it did take place on the 9th. It has a great Polly! If there is one song that you don’t know how it’s going to sound it’s Polly. Kurt changes the vocals almost every show. This one is close to the Wiskah version, to give an example, but not quite the same.
The historical significant of this date is it’s the date when the Berlin Wall started to come down. I have vague memories of the event. I wasn’t really sure of everything going on, just that it was a big deal.
This is all probably bullshit (since Nirvana wasn’t in Berlin on the 9th) but it’s still hilarious.

At two o’clock in the morning, in a small courtyard on the south side of the Reichstag, a Klieg light picked out Cobain and another figure lying semi-naked - the police described it as ‘a gross combination’ - celebration with the aid of a bottle and a stolen Federal Republic flag. A minute later both men were racing up the East-West axis with their eyes smarting from tear gas. It had been an eventful year or Cobain, but even he must have been impressed at the distance travelled: from rehearsing over the hair salon in Aberdeen to sprinting blindly from the march of history, and pulling up his trousers.”
Of course Kurt did tell the Advocate he would’ve carried on with the bisexual lifestyle if not for Courtney. AND the Michael Stipe sex rumors of yesteryear! Obviously the story is bullshit but I chose to believe it just for the absurdity of Kurt Cobain having sex, with another man, on the Berlin Wall as it fell. Fiction is greater than truth! <3
